Hadn't planned on getting back on the ferry so soon after the last time, but that's where The Boy's class trip took us today. Things I learned: 1. Get a klatch of pre-schoolers together and the topic of poop comes up fairly often. 2. Children are squirmy, wriggly creatures (I had a vague notion about this beforehand). 3. Two classrooms worth of kids and their entourage of chaperones and endlessly-patient teacher-types tend to take over an entire half of a fairly large boat.

Back when The Boy turned two we were packing up the house and preparing to move halfway across the country. Not having the time for proper birthday festivity and festoonery, we made do with a trip to the hipster toystore for a few easily packable gifts. Friday is Bear's second birthday. We have no good excuse for why we've made no preparations for gifts or celebration. But I've decided to put that still-in-the-works father's day gifts aside, heaped up next to that quilt (yes, still with the quilt), and take up with some of that chiffon and organza and whip up a little tutu for my favorite little girl.

I'm sure any number of clever-seeming infomercial products could have prevented that weed from taking hold in the gutter above the front door. The Mr. says it's embarrassing. I think it's kind of cute.

With training for the big race officially behind me (is it crazy that I'm considering another half-marathon in 3 weeks?), and our teetotaling houseguests safely deposited at the airport, I treated myself to what has become the rare glass (ok, two glasses) of wine with dinner.

That's what I did today. Chip time: 02:19:53, which came in just under my goal. Secretly, I was hoping for a better time, but I'm happy enough to be able to move my limbs in relatively fluid motion this evening. And it was my first half marathon, so I'm gonna cut me some slack. This time.

The only overnight escapes from parenthood I've had previously were spent in the confines of a hospital room. So I suppose that spending a night away from children in a hotel in Tukwila, Seattle's strip mall away from home, is way more reprieve than I'm used to. Still, waking up to catch a 5 am shuttle to the race start might prove a less than relaxing endeavor.

Purchased a few weeks ago, along with that new telephoto lens, I think I've given the Eye-Fi card a fair shake. And I deem it to be an head-poundingly, aggravating mess of a user experience. I submit for tonight's photo, instead of one of the several dozen usable, partially downloaded, entirely inaccessible photos, an iPhone shot of the photos stuck in proprietary program purgatory. Tomorrow, the old low-tech card goes back in.
